Welspun Sheets Litigation
The Paynter Law Firm PLLC has filed class action lawsuits against Welspun India Ltd., Welspun USA Inc. ("Welspun"), and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. for fraudulently marketing and distributing certain bed linens as being made from 100% Egyptian cotton when, in fact, Welspun used inferior and less expensive cottons in many of its allegedly "100% Egyptian cotton" bed linens. As a result, consumers overpaid for an inferior product. In some cases, consumers are believed to have paid close to $200.00 for bed linens that were falsely marketed as being made of 100% Egyptian cotton.
Numerous retailers have been evaluating bed linens and cotton certification records for bed linens made by Welspun. Target was the first to make the decision to end all business with Welspun. Other retailers such as Wal-Mart, Bed Bath & Beyond, Macy's, and J.C. Penney Co. also carry or have carried Welspun products. Recently, Bed Bath & Beyond made the decision to stop selling Welspun sheets that were labeled as being "100% Egyptian cotton", and J.C. Penney has started offering refunds to their customers.
The affected sheets are believed to have been manufactured between 2014 and 2016. At Target, the sheets were sold under the Fieldcrest label, and J.C. Penney sold the linens under the Royal Velvet label. The affected sheets sold by Wal-Mart were sold under the Canopy and Better Homes & Gardens labels, and Bed Bath & Beyond sold the sheets under the Crowning Touch and Perfect Touch labels.
